Website Updates September 2026

Hey everyone! It's been a busy couple of weeks on the RC-Clubs platform. Here's everything that's changed since our last update.

🔐 Passkey Authentication (WebAuthn)

You can now sign in using your device's built-in passkeys — no passwords required. This is the same technology that powers Face ID, Touch ID, and Windows Hello for secure authentication.

What this means for you:

• Faster login with biometrics or PIN
• Stronger security than traditional passwords
• Still works alongside Google sign-in and password auth if you prefer those options

reCAPTCHA on Registration

New user registrations now require Google's reCAPTCHA verification, reducing bot signups.

🏁 Race Day Improvements

Race Popout Overhaul

The race popout view is now the default way to follow live races. We've also:

• Made the Live View link available to all users (not just admins)
• Moved the Live View and Race Admin buttons to the top of event pages for easier access
• Added support for projected finals seeding with a manual toggle button

Staggered Races & Timing Fixes

• Fixed staggered race finish logic so each driver sees their correct personal start time
• Improved total lap time calculations across all timing systems
• Standardized lap data storage to use the laps field consistently
• Added hardware clock synchronization for timing systems (your timer now syncs with the server)

Audio System Upgrade

Race announcements now use a priority-based queue system. Meaning less dropped audio. Also local voices are more obvious which help improve latency of audio dramatically.

📅 Event Management Features

Event Archival

Events can now be archived after they're over. Archived events stay in your club's history but are hidden from active listings. You can restore them anytime.

Circuit Builder Track Embeds

When creating an event, you can now add a Circuit Builder track layout by pasting the URL or iframe code. The track will display on your event page automatically.

Event Page Redesign

The event view page is now cleaner and more mobile-friendly with:

• Sticky call-to-action buttons on mobile
• Breadcrumbs for easy navigation
• Weather widget integration
• Capacity info for events with pre-registration

🔌 API Improvements

We've significantly expanded what you can do via the API:

Event Registrations API

Managers can now query event registrations programmatically:

• Confirmed pre-registrations
• Race-day driver roster
• Pending guest approvals

Event CRUD API

Full create, read, update, and delete operations for club events are available at /api/v1 with X-API-Key authentication. This means you can integrate RC-Clubs events into your own tools and workflows.

🏁 Bluetooth & Timing System Fixes

• Fixed BLE UUIDs for Bluetooth devices (improves connection reliability)
• Added write retry logic for Bluetooth reporters to recover from network errors
• Removed the idle timer from Bluetooth timing — time sync now happens on lineup instead

🧹 Cleanup & Maintenance

• Merged race-day-view into race-popout (the old view is gone)
• Split timing system and reporting system registration for cleaner code
• Added migration scripts to fix any existing lap time data issues in the database
• Improved backup logging with parallel collection support
